Ujamaa Black American Theater is an artist development institution designed to help performing artists hone their craft in the downtown theater district. Established in 1977 by Titus Walker, "Black Theater King," Ujamaa has significantly influenced what you see in Black Hollywood today. Our hands-on teaching method elevates artists to the next level or helps them determine if performing arts truly suit them Professional actors, dancers, and vocalists are nurtured at Ujamaa, where our unique cultural and socially conscious content distinguishes us from traditional training programs.
